Sitting at the Annual International OCD Foundation’s (IOCDF) OCDCon2022, I am struck by the power of connection. The conference is really strange- in a good way. As my family and I reflected on it, we all noted the unique nature of bringing together professionals and researchers with sufferers, family members, siblings, youth, young adults, parents, and more. Where else does this happen? The one unifying factor:
Finding recovery and hope for the sufferer of OCD and Related Disorders.
Not Alone
For any given problem we may face in life, there is strength in numbers. Those numbers may simply be 1+1. Getting outside of our own brain, our own bias, and the lies or inaccuracies we might believe and tell ourselves (we all have them) is done most fully when we’re not an island unto ourselves.
I have the urge to write a longer post, quoting the science, referencing a story, or provide some pithy “home run” with my words. But here’s the thing: a connection that breaks isolation can be talked about all day long. Doing it is what makes the difference.
How Do You Need Connection Today?
How do you need connection today? How can you find a way out of the dark, or further into light? Maybe you’re doing wonderful today- sharing in positives can make them even more “real” in our experience. Maybe you’re really struggling- who can you find to connect to? It’s a simple question. But this is one that must move beyond words and step into action. I hope you are filled to the brim today in knowing- wherever you find yourself- you are not alone.
