My full Script:
Hi, my name is Justin K. Hughes, Licensed Professional Counselor, and I offer evidence-based treatment for OCD as a private practice clinician. I am also a leader in the Christian community.
I believe you can be a part of a faith community & receive mental health treatment.
You can participate in a faith community while engaging in Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD.
It is possible to have faith in your religious tradition while also having faith in your recovery through evidence-based treatment.
Faith and mental health treatment do not have to be mutually exclusive.
Religious leaders and clinicians can work together to provide hope and support.
You are loved and not alone.
I think faith communities and clinicians benefit from working together for a couple key reasons:
In the research we find that most people find matters of spirituality and faith important to them. OCD tends to 1) attack the things that are important to us and 2) clients can gain strength, courage, and focus that can comes from a clearer understanding and integration of faith and valued beliefs. It is crucial to work together if we say we are about supporting the whole person and improving outcomes. I believe the physical and emotional works in connection with the spiritual.
