If you have an Anxiety disorder or OCD, there are factual, verifiable differences in your experience with fear, uncertainty, and doubt. Many of my clients feel extra shame that they can’t overcome their doubts quickly through faith. IMPORTANT: God sees that some struggle more with doubt. Does God shame us out of it? No. He tells us to have more mercy. Is this different than what you’ve experienced?
And have mercy on those who doubt….
(Jude 1:22a)
Yes, there are those who arrogantly doubt and reject God (the rest of Jude’s books speak about this). But there are many, MANY examples of saints who have doubted along the road of their spiritual growth.
If you suffer with doubt, know you are not alone. Know this: it doesn’t make you less of a person. It doesn’t make you less of a Christian. There is the opportunity, yes, to grow in faith and good works. Yes, our doubts can reveal important things about us. Yes, doubts can be intrusive. Yes, doubts help us see where there is a problem so we can receive more mercy and hope.
Remember that God’s kindness leads to our change (Romans 2:4). Have a wonderful day.
